Most Interesting Theories in Earth Sciences Today

Ever since the Geological Societies in Europe learned men have spent considerable time contemplating how the Earth got to be the way it is, where the Moon came from, why we have Earthquakes and such. Not long ago Gore won the Nobel Prize for his movie Inconvenient Truth, which suggested that the water levels might rise and flood out much of mankind's greatest civilizations.

Nevertheless, it does not appear that this is happening at all, rather the ocean if it is rising may rise less than a few feet over 150-years, that is if all the ice is to melt. Still others show that the ocean has been receding for millions of years. One gentleman who has several theories on such things as Isostatic Rebound, the Evolution of Ancient Civilizations, Earth Expansion, Seismic Creep and Receding Seas may actually have a lot more research into such events and be able to prove it - would this not be worthy of the Nobel Prize.

The Scientist's name is Richard Guy and in discussing this whole set of concepts with him it occurred to us that; "Would it not be funny if Al Gore won the Prize for saying that sea levels are rising and then he turned around and won it for saying that sea levels are falling?"

The Theory of Earth Expansion seems viable and if the Earth Expands then the sea level would fall not rise at all. This is very interesting and yes, one could see where this explanation makes sense, even works with Occam's Razor, as we were all taught the Pangaea Super Continent Theory in school. Indeed, I enjoyed Richard Guy's book, it was very interesting.

Now in some places beach erosion may have taken out coastline property, thus fooling the observer, into thinking that the sea is rising, when it is really not. The theory and Richard's comments on the expanding Earth would also give us increased activity on the Ring of Fire, tectonic plates and some 60,000 (?) underwater volcanoes, which would heat the water, thus heating the air? Causing - Climate Change, or Global Heating.

Believe it or not although this is not part of his original concept, it is now. Many scientists would you say that the man-caused "Global Warming" theory is a political controversy of epic proportions and although mankind should prevent pollution for other obvious reasons, Al Gore deserves the Nobel Peace Prize no more than the Paris Hilton. Of course, Al Gore has just as many folks who proclaim him a saint for bringing this to forefront.

Richard Guy's theories are a scary omen for the Three Gorges Dam project in China, although any "extreme engineering" type who has ever looked at that would call the entire thing the World's Greatest man-made disaster waiting to happen. In fact, it immediately came to my mind as a serious implication of Richard's Theories.

The Madrid Earthquake Fault in Middle America is a scary thought indeed, too many bridges crossing that to count, the number of people that could die from over flows, reverse flows, structures and bridges is not thinkable, but we had better. It is not if, but when of course. The book suggests that engineers of bridges, rail, buildings and dams need to consider the Seismic Creep theory and Expanding Earth if they are to build strong infrastructures, which will be safe for thousands of years to come. Think on it.
